Project update

Thanks very much to all the community members who provided feedback on the proposed concept plan for Kingston Heath Reserve.

All the information has been collated by the project team and in November 2022 Council endorsed the Kingston Heath Reserve Sporting Facility Improvement Plan.

Council is currently seeking to progress the design development of Stage 1, subject to Council funding endorsement.

Background

Following Council’s consideration of a sporting needs analysis (which recognised an immediate need for an additional hockey field within Kingston) and subsequent site feasibility assessment (which identified Kingston Heath Reserve as the preferred location for an additional hockey field), a proposed concept plan has been developed for Kingston Heath Reserve.

The proposed sporting facility improvements (see concept plan under the documents tab) are reflective of initial feedback provided by the tenant sporting clubs.

Project Summary

As part of Council's commitment to providing improved sporting facilities at Kingston Heath Reserve, we are currently planning for the proposed development of a new synthetic hockey field to meet growing demand for the sport.

The community consultation, sought feedback on the proposed concept plans which include:

Stage 1

  • A new synthetic hockey field and supporting infrastructure on the existing cricket oval, and adequate lighting to support usage levels. Emergency vehicle access from existing pathway to the new hockey pitch.
  • Relocating the cricket pitch/oval to the west to coexist with the existing baseball field and moving the existing baseball fence and infrastructure 10m north to allow for greater open space between the sporting fields and playground area
  • New cricket practice nets/multi-use games area adjacent to the new facility and hockey field. Removal of the existing cricket nets which are at the end of their useful life.

Stage 2 (subject to funding)

  • Installing synthetic turf on the main baseball field (in-field only) and two additional sports lights to support increased usage levels. Reconstructing the outfield fencing to afford provisions for junior baseball matches.
  • New baseball fencing and supporting infrastructure (players/officials shelters and ball stop netting) on two baseball fields in the northeast to improve player, spectator, and pedestrian safety.

Stage 3 (subject to funding and feasibility assessment)

  • Construction of a new facility adjacent the new hockey field to include change rooms, viewing space and public.
